Description: The main work here is the 18-minute symphonic poem Ero e Leandro of 1884 whose tale of lovers separated by water and the storm which comes up while one is swimming to the other furnishes a perfect dramatic musical arc, imaginatively orchestrated, neither wholly Liszt-Wagner nor German Romanticism, but there are two World Premiere Recordings too: the short Andantino of c.1871, Catalani's first published work, and the "Romantic Symphony" (1874) which is really another tone-poem depicting the early morning of its actual title in just under 15-minutes of well-orchestrated late Romanticism and stylistic blend. Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma; Francesco La Vecchia.
