Description: Urspruch marries the heritage of Beethoven and Schubert with the contemporary world of Brahms and Wagner while Wolff, a highly regarded accompanist who left behind around 150 songs, was plainly a brilliant pianist as well, as this collection of lieder demonstrates. He also plainly was excellent at tone-painting (a swarm of bees in Bienenlied) and Humperdinck, lamenting his early death, placed him in the line Schubert-Jensen-Franz-Brahms-Wolf. German texts. Rebecca Broberg (soprano), Ulrich Urban (piano).
