Description: Not otherwise available on disc, the 1911 suite is an engaging work somewhat in the style of the Suite im alten Stil so popular at the turn of the century but whose Waltz is quite up-to-date in its late Romantic harmonies and tinges of melancholy. Debussian harmonies mark much of the 1913 Sonata No. 1 while the solo sonata and No. 2 (both from 1927), while showing some influences from Bartók, show Schulhoff at the peak of what one might call his "serious" style, given that he was also composing his jazz-based and other iconoclastic pieces at the same time. Tanja Becker-Bender (violin), Markus Becker (piano).
