Description: Portugal is the latest country in this series and this disc might be worth having just for the wonderful Braga Santos quartet of 1956 with its hushed, mystical slow movement reminding you of the rapt moments in Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and its joyful and bouncy folk-music finale. Vianna da Motta's quartet must be early for it is a vernal, serenade-like piece of utter joyousness, concisely expressed in less than 16 minutes while de Sousa's 1957 wind quintet is in the easily approachable tradition of Nielsen and Barber. Eosander Quartet, Members of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
