Description: Scored in 20 parts (16 for chorus and four soloists), this 1913 motet, rarely performed due to the technical feats it requires, is only surpassed in number of voice parts by Alessandro Striggio's 1561 motet Ecce beatam lucem and Tallis' Spem in alium. The 1935 Traumlicht reflects Strauss' anguish at the time when his Die schweigsame Frau was banned because of its Jewish librettist and he resigned as president of the Reichsmusikkammer. Dating from 1897, the two Gesänge evoke the Apollonian calm of classical antiquity and Old Testament drama. German-English texts. Jane Archibald (soprano), Dagmar Pecková (alto), Eric Soklossa (tenor), Robert Gleadow (bass-baritone), Accentus, Latvian Radio Choir; Laurence Equilbey.
