Description: Just three months ago, Naxos offered the first recording of the Chimay string trio; the second one dates from the same year, 1927, and was initially titled Ballade. Like its companion but slightly shorter, it is a one-movement work of 14 minutes. That, and the huge, three-movement, 38-minute trio for two violins and viola are world premiere recordings. This big work, written in London between 1914-16 was revised (and performed a few times) between 1917 and 1925. The violinist on this recording, Tor Bøen, spent several years reconciling manuscripts and revisions to produce this edition.
