Description: The rarity here is Haydn's 1792 vocal scene for four soloists and orchestra to poetry by John Wolcott which allowed him free imaginative rein in conjuring up an impressive battery of orchestral storm effects. The nine-minute work was edited for performance by the conductor. Mendelssohn's edition of Handel's 1743 Te Deum involves additions of flute, clarinet and horn parts which give the orchestra a full, romantic sound color. German-English & French-German texts. Dominique Labelle (soprano), Thomas Cooley, Colin Ainsworth (tenors), William Berger (bass), North German Radio Choir, Göttingen Festival Orchestra; Nicholas McGegan.
