Description: Margola's music represents two parallel paths to the neo-classical recapturing of the Italian musical past characteristic of the "generation of the 80s" (Malipiero, Casella, etc.) and of some members of the following generation. From the Fascist period, the works without oboe are more akin to Pizzetti's romantic melancholy for a lost ancient world with their dark timbres and polyphony, reminiscent of the 17th century and the Renaissance (there are fugues in both works). The three concertante works with oboe are from after the war and show Margola's mature style in which the earlier neo-classicism is integrated with more up-to-date influences. Paolo Grazia (oboe), Ensemble Respighi; Federico Ferri.
