Description: Almost four years after the last release in this series (03Q001) we finally get Woyrsch’s last two symphonies. The Fourth is from 1930 and uses the same musical vocabulary as the Third (1928) where the modernism of Schreker and Zemlinsky meets Mahler and Bruckner - the adagio is especially reminiscent of the latter. The 1935 Fifth changes only in its remarkable concision and compactness - same number of movements (four) but 21 minutes in length compared to 34. Both symphonies remained unpublished until 2016 and 2015 respectively. No date is given for the “Garden Scene”, a five-minute piece with Concertante cello which was to have been part of a three-segment Faust composition. It was Woyrsch’s last composition. NDR Radiophilharmonie; Thomas Dorsch.
