Description: A German who spent the last 25 years of his life as a valued teacher and performer in Moscow, Gebel wrote the big, four-movement 31-minute sonata in 1812, one of the few cello sonatas of that period not by Beethoven or Ries. The quintet, still in late Classical style, dates from c. 1840, during the last 25 years of his life which he spent in Moscow.
