Description: The antepenultimate volume in this series brings Mendelssohn’s most Bachian work, the 1837 Preludes and Fugues which, nonetheless, have plenty of Mendelssohn-the-Romantic about them as well. The next-to-last book of Songs without Words is joined by a lied-like Andante cantabile and sonata-form Presto agitato, written for a musical album in 1838 and a buoyant Lied written in 1837 in his new bride’s honeymoon diary but not published until 1927. Howard Shelley (piano).
