Description: The soul-withering circumstances of Pettersson's childhood need no rehearsing; this release, the first recording since 1998 (this one using a tenor; the earlier one was with mezzo-soprano) brings six songs of 1935 with texts dealing with death and despondency and the 24 Barefoot Songs (1943-45), to Pettersson's own difficult texts, have the simple melodiousness of strophic folk song but speak obliquely of autobiographical matters in a bleak wistfulness.
