Description: Milford's 18-minute mass was written between 1945 and 1947, possibly inspired by hearing Kodály's Missa brevis on the radio. It's modal character combined with enharmonic modulations and chromatic side-slips make it rather difficult to perform and a far piece off from the composer's reputation as a cheery melodist.
