Description: World Premiere Recordings of the Bunte Suite, a work written for Frankfurt Radio in 1927 and the Mozart variations published in Los Angeles in 1953. The former is a six-movement work of almost concerto-for-orchestra type which mixes the period's fascination with incorporating popular music into classical music while placing a long Adagio espressivo of elegiac mood at the piece's center while the latter is a late-in-life return to Toch's youthful hero, Mozart, done with great respect but also with great wit. The 1925 concerto has three motoric, neo-classical/Neue Sachligkeit movements and, again, a long, expressive adagio. Tatiana Blome (piano), Peter Bruns (cello), Berlin Chamber Symphony, Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig (op. 35); Jürgen Bruns.
