Description: The large-scale, three-movement, 41-minute quintet is a work of almost symphonic proportions, throbbing with a virile late Romanticism spiced ever so slightly but tellingly with the dark Expressionism coming to the fore in the period in which it was composed (1913). Compared to it, the 11-minute Rhapsody of the same year is a jeu d'esprit with intimations of an almost Hungarian gypsy flavor; the 20-minute sonata (1906) is a young composer's tribute to late Romanticism par excellence.
