Description: Hauk and his players take a break from Simon Mayr to bring us this similarly operatic oratorio, first performed in Dresden in 1807, and filled with potently descriptive music. Frenzied crowd scenes, the grief and pain of the crucifixion and the joys and rapture of the resurrection allow Paër to prove that, at least here, he's Mayr's equal.
