Description: This oratorio was performed in the private chapel of a Roman nobleman in 1671. At the time of its recording, 22 years ago, this repertoire was still practically unexplored. Not any longer. Exhibiting some conservative elements like numerous parts for two and three voices instead of the then-popular aria-recitative style, it is punctuated, in authentic fashion, by instrumental interludes by Corelli and Stradella to amplify the affetti expressed in the text. Italian-English texts. Nadia Ragni (soprano), Claudio Cavina (countertenor), Furio Zanasi (baritone), Il Teatro Armonico; Alessandro De Marchi. Original 1990 Symphonia release.
