Catalogue Number: 01N067
Description: This Puerto Rican composers concertos (from 2003, 2009 and 1998 respectively as listed above) are warmly expressive and find their inspiration in the mix of Hispanic and African cultural influences in his Caribbean home island. The Concertino specifies these influences in its movement subtitles: "Witch-Herb" (syncopated Afro-Caribbean rhythms), "Mahogany Trees" (modal and contrapuntal) and "The Golden Humming-Bird" (a moto perpetuo of barely 80 seconds), as does Ínsula: "Landscapes" (the guajira is prominent), "Meditation" (oddly enough, inspired by Satie), "The Indianists of Maricao" (an ancient pentatonic scale is at work here, associated with indigenous peoples of the island) and "Salsa Fantasy". Pepé Romero (guitar), Guillermo Figueroa (violin), I Solisti di Zagreb.
