Description: The three sonatas with piano occupy a mere seven years, from 1912-19, at the beginning of Honegger's compositional career and show him progressing from Wagnerian chromaticism and the modality of Fauré and Debussy to an interest in polytonality and concision in the Third (at 12 minutes, half the length of "No. 0" and nine minutes shorter than No. 2) while the solo sonata, written under the influence of the beginning of WW II in 1940, is an austere, mournful and, in the finale, frantic, work which pays direct tribute to Bach. Laurence Kayaleh (violin), Paul Stewart (piano).
