Description: This release continues a series once issued on Finlandia (which was murdered by Warner Music, as all good labels are when acquired by multi-national octopi who know nothing about culture) devoted to Finnish choral music. Containing around half of all Madetoja's music for mixed choir (he was the most prolific choral composer of the major Finnish national composers), it is presented with an oversize booklet with 16 pages of notes on Madetoja, Finnish poets, his choral styles and separate notes on each composition. Love and longing (usually unrequited or damaged), the beauty of nature and loss, resignation and death are the main subjects of his predominantly melancholy settings. Finnish-English texts. Tapiola Chamber Choir; Hannu Norjanen.
