Description: Published in 1786, Clementi's Op. 15 sonatas are his first in which violin and piano have equal roles in presentation and elaboration of material. Mozart did this first, in 1778, but his sonatas are in two movements while Clementi's are in three (fast, moderate, fast). The piano part is what you'd expect from the composer, quite involved with exploring the possibilities of keyboard technique at the time. The two-movement, Op. 5 sonata (1780) is an example of the old-fashioned "accompanied" sonata in which the violin could be omitted without any detriment to the work. Enzo Porta (violin), Carlo Mazzoli (fortepiano).
