Notes for January 2014

Number of items in this month's catalogue: 1

The usual appalling lack of new releases in December made filling this month's catalogue the hardest task I've had in the 17 Januaries of my tenure of Records International. Only 39 of the items here are from distributors' new release catalogues (usually, I'll have 65 titles just from Naxos distribution alone). The remainder are mostly items which, through the vagaries of switching distributors over the past 10 years, were never offered in the U.S. as new. Most of these are on two labels: Dux and Ars Produktion. Since they were being treated as mere back-catalogue by their new distributor, not very large quantities of any of them were in stock so there may be more items back-ordered this month than usual - especially on the Bo Linde titles (01P002 and 01P003). In February, as usual, I will have more new stuff to offer than I'll know what to do with. Naxos, distributor of over 225 classical labels, offers only Naxos and Brilliant Classics new releases in December. Then, for the end of January, two months worth of new releases from everyone they handle. No, it makes no sense to me either.
