JOHN MCCABE (b.1939): Concerto for Orchestra (rec. Feb. 10, 1983), The Chagall Windows (rec. Nov. 30, 1975), MALCOLM ARNOLD (1921-2006): Philharmonic Concerto (rec. Oct. 21, 1976).

Description: The draw here is that these are the actual world premiere performances of all three compositions. McCabe's concerto is a single-movement work in nine sections, a sort of passacaglia on a theme heard during the introduction; a lighter central trio of sections is surrounded by outer sections of darker, urgent and more romantic mood while the Windows are a half-hour, 12-segment work inspired by the stained glass windows the famous artist created for a Jerusalem hospital. London Philharmonic Orchestra; Bernard Haitink, Sir Georg Solti (Concerto for Orchestra).
