Description: Principal cellist of the Vienna Opera orchestra, dedicatee of Chopin's Op. 3 Introduction et Polonaise brillante, Merk continued the tradition of cellists publishing cello etudes (this label and performer have already released a disc of Merk's famous predecessor Jean Louis Duport's etudes, and his successor David Popper's), this group dating from the mid 1820s and dedicated to Merk's friend, Schubert.
