Description: Three more masterful and compelling works from Ries: the two concertos (his fifth and fourth respectively - both published in 1823 but the Fourth probably written as early as 1809) are a fine combination of orchestral Beethovenian gruffness and grandeur and scintilliating, bravura pianism à la Hummel. The late (1835) 18-minute discmate is equally grand orchestrally and brilliant pianistically. Nine of Ries' piano-and-orchestra pieces down and five to go!
