Description: All these works were written by composers associated with the Viennese imperial court (where the flute was not popular, meaning that they were likely private commissions). Monn’s is the earliest (1740) and most unusual in sometimes giving all four voices solo work at the same time and then returing the two lower ones to continuo duty. Gassmann’s is the latest (1760) but, having been written while at a post in Venice, is more conservative than the early Classical concertos by Wagenseil and Bonno which all date from 1750. Ensemble Klingekunst; Sieglinde Größinger (flute).
