GEORG PHILIPP TELEMANN (1681-1767): Der Tag des Gerichts, TWV 6:8.
Catalogue Number: 10P020
Label: Rondeau Production
Description: Composed in 1761, this oratorio was divided into four "Observations": central themes of Enlightenment theology; the Last Judgement; the tribunal of the archangel Michael and the Kingdom of the Blessed. Prevailing moral currents against operatic treatment of sacred subjects demanded that the music completely serve the text and only the text; some of these texts are colorful enough that Telemann could happily write the colorful music he's always capable of and a pair of trumpets, three horns and timpani add to the grandeur of certain sequences. German texts. Siri Karoline Thornhill (soprano), Susanne Krumbiegel (alto), Tobias Hunger (tenor), Bach Consort Leipzig; Gotthold Schwarz (bass).
