Description: All three of these sonatas, written before 1900, are dramatic and engrossing examples of symphonic organ music of the New German School (i.e. the Liszt-Wagner axis). Although no programmatic titles are supplied (except for the third movement of the third sonata, Dir, dir, Jehova), each seems to follow a musical path from darkness to victory. Rather more striking than much late Romantic German organ music! Halgeir Schiager (Sauer organ of the Lutherkirche, Chemnitz).
