Description: This recital of Catalonian music for solo cello is headlined by the Suite of Pablo Casals' brother, written in 1976 in his elder sibling's memory. Cassadó's suite has several other recordings already, leaving the ten-minute Elegía of Guinjoan and the 15-minute sonata by Brotons, both strongly elegiac, the latter more variegated in that it has four movements: Preludio dolente, Scherzetto, Funerale and Finale adivato (the theme of loss and grief plainly dominant here as well). Everything is tonal if the Guinjoan is not exactly melodic. Lluís Claret (cello).
