Description: The concertos are fairly early works, the violin of 1810 coming just a few months before the following year's double horn work. These, like his piano concertos (of which only two existed at this time) do not have the Beethoven sound of his symphonies but they are fine, often dramatic works (the horn concerto has its share of minor key dark skies as well) which any Ries collector will love. The opera overtures from 1827 and 1831 are, respectively, eight minutes of Romantic high drama, and six minutes of a curiously Rossinian lightness and vim. Anton Steck (violin), Teunis van der Zwart, Erwin Wieringa (horns), Die Kölner Akademie; Michael Alexander Willens.
