Description: Schubert's little one-act German farces are quite ignored today, with a couple of hoary EMI recordings from the 70s flitting in and out of the catalogue, so it's nice to welcome what must be the first period-instrument recordings of two of them: "The Four-Year Posting" from 1815 and "The Twin Brothers" from 1820. Both are plays with music, spoken dialogue connecting the aria or three, ensembles and finale. Schubert may not have been a born dramatist but his music is still worth hearing... German libretti.
