Description: Just when you thought you'd heard all of Bax, here are two items not otherwise available: the 1913 Irish Landscape, a work in Bax's Celtic vein but shorter (7+ minutes) and more lyrical and melodious than some of his brooding Irish landscapes, and the 1943 Work in Progress, written for the National Services Entertainment Association (along with Moeran's Overture for a Masque and Rawsthorne's Street Corner). It is jolly and rumbustious, like the Rogue's Comedy Overture of 1936 which is only available otherwise in Chandos' Vernon Handley Bax box. Also buckling the swash is the 1937 Overture to Adventure (also on a 7-year-old Classico recording). It's a sad realization of the aging process to note that Del Mar's highly regarded Sixth is one of the earliest Bax stereo recordings...
