ALBERTO FRANCHETTI (1860-1942): Germania.
Catalogue Number: 10J057
Reference: 93 518
Description: Having turned over the libretto to Tosca to Puccini (!), Franchetti set this tale of German student conspiracies to rid the Rhine of Napoleon in 1806 and it was premiered at La Scala by Toscanini in 1902. Franchetti uses Wagnerian techniques and plenty of local color in the form of German popular and student songs (some of which he misunderstood, leading to an entire booklet note on the origin and meaning of a single song!). A Symphonic Intermezzo offered symbolic projections of the rebirth of a free Germany via German mythology. Lise Lindstrom (soprano), Carlo Ventre (tenor), Bruno Caproni (baritone), Chorus and Orchestra of the Deutschen Oper Berlin; Renato Palumbo. 16:9 widescreen. English subtitles. NTSC worldwide. 2.0 stereo/Dolby Digital/5.1 surround.
