KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI (b.1933): Te Deum, Hymne an den heiligen Daniel, Polymorphia, Chaconne from Polish Requiem.
Catalogue Number: 10J012
Description: Inspired by the election of Karol Wojtyla as pope, the 1979-80 Te Deum is in the full-blooded neo-Romantic style which Penderecki began to use with his 1977 violin concerto while the short (12-minute) Hymne demonstrates his ability to write less monumental, more simple yet still affecting choral/orchestral works. The Chaconne was added in 2005 to the Polish Requiem of the 1980s as a tribute to John Paul II's death. Demonstrating the stylistic distance Penderecki has traveled is Polymorphia, a 1961 experiment in avant-garde sonorism. Old Church Slavonic (transliterated)-English texts. Izabela Keosinska (soprano), Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzo), Adam Zdunikowski (tenor), Piotr Nowacki (bass), Warsaw National Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra; Antoni Wit.
