Catalogue Number: 09V040
Label: Hännsler Classic
Description: The 18-minute Te Deum, still rather operatic, was one of the mandatory works sent back to Paris while Bizet was in Rome as winner of the 1857 Prix de Rome and Berlioz was likely still in the composer’s mind at the time. Also rarely heard is Gounod’s happy combination of strict Palestrina style and modern opera elements from 1855 (rev. 1864). Angela Maria Blasi (soprano), Christian Elsner (tenor), Dietrich Henschel (baritone), Munich Motet Choir, Munich Symphony; Hans Rudolf Zöbeley (live, March 13-17, 1996).
