Catalogue Number: 09V017
Reference: RAM 1809
Description: Two versions of the Pygmalion-Galatea myth, one the well-known and well-recorded 42-minute Acte de ballet by Rameau from 1748 and the other a 26-minute German monodrama (i.e. for reciter and orchestra) from 1779. With a style that anticipates the classical operatic tradition Haydn and Mozart would later consolidate, Benda’s work was bold for its time and innovative in the way that it integrated the spoken text with the music so naturally. French-English and German-English texts. Vocal soloists, Apotheosis Orchestra; Korneel Bernolet.
