PETER HÄNSEL (1770-1831): 3 String Trios, Op. 40.
Catalogue Number: 09R026
Reference: 463 066/67
Description: A violinist who was fortunate enough to have a life pension from his 1796 on, letting him concentrate on composition, Hänsel wrote 58 string quartets but only six string trios. These three date from 1830 and are really long, four-movement works (total timing: 97:27!). Hänsel studied with both Haydn and Pleyel in his early 30s and these works are in the conservative Classical style of the former, very attractively melodic, first violin leading but with generous opportunities for the other two players also. 2 CDs. Trio Anditi Köln.
