Description: Aspects of Walden's extraordinarily varied life as actor, composer for the popular stage (including Oh! Calcutta!), performer and film director find their way into these compositions. The Maquettes include studies in sonority and timbre (including direct contact on the strings) Latin rhythms, and jazz. The Similes are strongly contrasting character pieces, while the duo references traditional Jewish music. The trio, beginning with mournful, lamenting sounds, progressing through post-romantic tragedy and a bitter, edgy scherzo in popular rhythm and ending with barely controlled rage, is a 9/11 in memoriam piece.
