Description: These recordings were made in the early 1960s, roughly when Richard Itter was starting his own Lyrita label and focusing on English composers of similar vintage. Fewer than 100 copies of the LPs were produced. The performers were champions of Bax when Bax was in his prime and these recordings, though made well after his death, have their own claims to authenticity. The two romantic de Frumerie sonatas, from 1934 and 1944, may not have been recorded before. Notes from the original LPs, mostly by Merrick. 4 CDs. Henry Holst (violin), Frank Merrick (piano). Original Frank Merrick Society and Rare Recorded Edition LPs.
