DARIUS MILHAUD (1892-1974): Sonatine à trois, Op. 221b, String Trio, Op. 274, BOHUSLAV MARTINŮ (1890-1958): String Trios No. 1, H 136 and No. 2, H 238.

Description: This is at least the third recording of Martinů’s first trio (1924), only discovered in 2005 and which, along with the later trio from 1934, are part of his neo-classical Parisian period. But there are no other recordings available of Milhaud’s pair of trios from the mid 1940s which are excellent examples of his playfulness (from his southern French heritage and character) and his rigorousness (counterpoint and fugue - the only two devices he claimed to take from German music). Jacques Thibaud Trio.
