Description: Gnattali, son of Italian immigrants, was one of the most popular and famous composers of his native Brazil, where he is mentioned in the same breath as Villa-Lobos. His music is the perfect fusion of the high and the low, of formally structured classical music and the vibrant multi-coloured folk culture of Brazil; you’ll even find bossa nova flavors in the Second, dedicated to a co-founder of that style, the guitarist Garoto. These are medium-sized, three-movement works dating between 1951 and 1967, highly entertaining and brimming with good tunes, catchy rhythms and brilliant instrumentation which use neo-Romantic and neo-classical moulds while maintaining the light style often associated with symphonic jazz. Marco Salcito (guitar), Silvia Colageo (flute), Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese; Marcello Bufalini.
