Description: Pasternak's sonata is a 12-minute work from 1909, the preludes from three years earlier, all while the composer was at the Moscow Conservatory which he left after six years, headed for literary immortality instead. Modeled on Scriabin (whom the 13-year-old Pasternak got to know when their families spent a summer in adjoining houses), it is a dense, polyphonic, highly chromatic and contrapuntal web of muffled lyricism and vague hints of unease. Inna Faliks (piano).
