Description: Zumsteeg became known for his 300 or so lieder which pointed the way Schubert would take but he was originally a cellist and he wrote a dozen concertos for his instrument from his late teens into the early 1780s. This one, with its bouncy outer movements reflecting a youthful spirit and a slow movement like a wordless Italian operatic scena, is a good example. Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; Sebastian Comberti (cello).
