NICOLA PORPORA (1686-1768): Arias from the Operas Adelaide, Mitridate, Poro, Arianna a Nasso, Polifemo and Festa d'Imeneo.

Description: Four of the six operas excerpted here are from the three years Porpora was in London (1733-36), writing for a company formed to compete with Handel's. He had both Senesino and Farinelli there, so this recital is both an homage to the golden age of the Italian castrato as well as a rare look at a composer known for extraordinarily florid vocal writing, brilliantly exploiting the castrato voice's range and flexibility. Italian texts. Angelo Manzotti (male soprano), I Musici della Concordia; Nicola Breda.
