Description: Devienne's fecundity was a particular gift for wind players, especially bassoonists, as his sonatas for his own instrument are often full of rich and subtle emotions, subtle modulations and lyricism of vocal quality but his personal mixture of Empfindsamkeit with Viennese Classicism informs both these and his equally characterful oboe sonatas. Somewhat unique is the variety of continuo instruments used here (yes, Devienne still wrote sonatas for melody instrument and "bass"): bassoon, cello, lute and fortepiano, making rich music even richer-sounding. 2 CDs. Ingo Goritzki (oboe), Sergio Azzolini (bassoon), Ensemble Villa Musica.
