ADAM VALENTIN VOLCKMAR (1770-1851): Clarinet Quartets in F and in C, Trio in B Flat for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Piano Trio in C.
Catalogue Number: 07L048
Reference: 777 460
Description: Although his son became a famous organist and composer for the instrument, father Adam is unknown to Grove and his compositions, kept in the family until 1910, have only begun being published in the last five years. Although they are undated, they are in the high Classical style, not looking much ahead to Romanticism, but technically brilliant, with sophisticated melodies and fine part-writing (and Volckmar apparently kept up with advances in clarinet manufacture), making these the sort of things you have become accustomed to expect to have unconvered by Dieter Klöcker (but he can't be expected to find everything!). Arte Ensemble.
