Description: This blast-from-the-past reissue comes from a time, 1984, when barely any Japanese classical music was available in this country and was a big seller for our RI predecessors. Phonologie (1957) is a synthesis of Varese-like acoustical experiment and serial techniques. The jazz-tinted Bacchanale (1953) is Mayuzumi’s attempt to produce ‘a cosmos of sounds reflecting the vital energies of the origin of music,’ and the symphonic poem Samsara (1962) is a musical expression of Buddhist teaching, an attempt to escape the seemingly endless cycle of birth and rebirth.
