Description: Although we haven't carried any of the rest of this series, we offer this one primarily for the CD premiere of the 32-minute Les Nymphéas, which has only been recorded once before - on LP in 1968 by a Dupré student on Dupré's own house organ. An eight-movement suite, it dates from 1958/9 and is Dupré's musical response to the series of Impressionist paintings by Monet of the title flowers ("Water-lilies"). The composer was a life-long lover of Impressionist painting and he found the modern, up-to-date American organs (such as this one here) to be ideal for producing the richly colorful sounds he wanted to produce. Ben van Oosten (Casavant organ of the Brick Presbyterian Church, New York City).
