Description: Rathgeber is important for initiating a trend toward short, simple and attractively melodic church music which could be played and sung by the many small parishes who couldn't possibly perform the large-scale, highly contrapuntal and elaborate sacred baroque pieces which were the norm up to that point. Accompaniments are violins, cello, violone and organ while a few works also add a pair of trumpets and timpani. Monteverdi Ensemble Würzburg; Matthias Beckert.
