Description: The majority of these suites are in four dance movements composed in a unique and personal style which owes much to the refined art of French lute music with often striking harmonies, at times irregular phrase lengths, and an individual use of cadences at the end of sections. Although his style often calls to mind that of early French Baroque composers such as Chambonnières and Louis Couperin, Froberger’s individuality shines through in the majority of these works. 2 CDs. Gilbert Rowland (harpsichord).
